My usual candlesticks are created from 400g – 500g clay. Thrown by ‘coning’ the clay after it is centred and then creating a series of ‘bumps’ and the opening of the candlestick cup. Fun to make.
This week I have been exploring new shapes for candlesticks. Creating small bud vase shapes with an open base. The candle holder cup has an added plugĀ of clay once dried out a little. This way the neck is not too thin and I can throw as one piece. The main body of the shape has added indents, quite randomly added, to create an interesting and quirky body shape. They are currently drying out. I will share once finished!
I also wanted to explore a design for multiple candle holders. I have created a rectangular plate using a wooden mould with rolled out clay. I have thrown a number of candle cups off the hump. Once dried out a little, I will add the candle cups to the rectangular platter. This is my prototype!
Looking forward to experimenting with them to create quirky candleholder centre pieces for the table.
